The Polish Society of Medical Physics was initiated by a group of physicists, engineers and medical doctors interested in the development of medical applications of physical and technical sciences. The first meeting of the Founding Committee of the Society took place in Warsaw on February 5th 1965.

The aims of the Society are to initiate and support the development of medical physics and of medical bioengineering. Towards these aims, the Polish Medical Physics Society (PTFM) engages in the following activities:

1. Organises scientific congresses, symposia, workshops, seminars and lectures.
2. Publishes a scientific journal and topical reports.
3. Reviews the development of medical physics in Poland and represents the medical physics community to the national authorities.
4. Collaborates with other national and international scientific organisations of similar interest.
5. The Governing Board of the Society establishes commissions and committees to deal with particular issues.
